Dexa Group collaborates with the Badan Kependudukan dan Keluarga Berencana Nasional (BKKBN) of the Republic of Indonesia and the Provincial Government of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) to conduct Midwife Education and Stunting Intervention in the First 1,000 Days of Life (HPK). The event, attended by hundreds of midwives in NTT, is expected to reduce stunting rates in Indonesia significantly.

According to the Acting Governor of NTT, Mr. Ayodhia G.L Kalake, during his address at the Midwife Education and Stunting Intervention event held at Eltari Building, Kupang, on Thursday, March 7, 2024, the provincial government, together with districts and cities, continues to make concerted efforts to accelerate the reduction of stunting. The significant decrease in stunting rates since 2019 shows progress has been made.

“The prevalence of stunting in NTT has decreased in 2021 to 20.9 percent, in 2022 to 17.7 percent, and in 2023, based on weighing results in August of 419,738 toddlers, the rate is 15.2 percent. The prevalence is still quite high, equivalent to 63,804 cases,” he explained.

The Acting Deputy for Family Planning and Reproductive Health of BKKBN RI, Mr. Marianus Mau Kuru, stated that the primary cause of stunting rates in the NTT Province is early marriage among teenagers. “Various factors underlie early marriage, ranging from customs and economics to unwanted pregnancies or unplanned pregnancies of both partners. Midwives, family planning cadres, and healthcare professionals can implement education and prevention programs starting from adolescence and continuing through pregnancy and after childbirth to reduce the risk of impaired growth in children. Therefore, collaboration must be encouraged by all stakeholders. We are grateful to Dexa Group for educating midwives on preventing stunting in NTT,” Marianus explained.

The Chairperson of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) Central Board, Ms. Ade Jubaedah, expressed that IBI continues to coordinate and collaborate with all parties, such as BKKBN, to reduce stunting rates and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR).
“And today proves how extraordinary the convergence efforts in the East Nusa Tenggara Province are because of the full support from stakeholders ranging from the governor’s officials to the head of BKKBN,” Ade said.

Corporate Affairs Director of Dexa Group, Mr. Tarcisius Tanto Randy, stated that efforts to reduce stunting rates in Indonesia are a strategic initiative in Dexa Group’s contribution as a National pharmaceutical company focused on health.

“Dexa Group, one of the private entities focused on health, namely providing quality, efficacious, and safe pharmaceutical products, contributes to this Accelerated Stunting Reduction Program.
