Innovatively Developing OMAI Phytopharmaca for Pharmaceutical Independence, Dexa Medica Wins Indonesia Healthcare Innovation Awards 2021

PT Dexa Medica won the Indonesia Healthcare Innovation Awards 2021 for the Independence of the OMAI Phytopharmaca Pharmaceutical Industry category. The award was achieved by PT Dexa Medica for its innovation in developing Original Modern Indonesian Medicine (OMAI) to realize the independence of the national pharmaceutical industry.
The award ceremony took place offline and online, and was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Health, dr Dante Saksono Herbuwono. In his remarks, the Deputy Minister of Health hoped that the innovations developed by the winners of this event could become solutions in the Indonesian health world.
"Congratulations to the winners of the Indonesia Healthcare Innovation Awards 2021 categories. I hope that with the emergence of innovative ideas from innovators, it can be a solution to provide greater, faster, and sustainable benefits for changing healthy lifestyle behavior for all Indonesian people," said the Deputy Minister of Health at the event which took place on Thursday, November 25, 2021.
According to the Deputy Minister of Health, the innovation developed by the award winners is in line with the 6 pillars of health system transformation developed by the government. The six pillars are Primary service transformation, Referral service transformation, Health resilience system transformation, Health financing system transformation, Health human resources transformation, and Health technology transformation.
"This is where the role of the nation's innovators is needed. Various fresh innovative ideas that can improve the performance of effective and efficient healthcare services while providing easy access to the public are welcomed as a form of support to the government in carrying out efforts to realize the health of the Indonesian nation," added the Deputy Minister of Health.
Previously at the National Forum on Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Independence in order to welcome National Health Day, in Yogyakarta, Monday (8/11), the Deputy Minister of Health also stated that the development of Phytopharmaca is also in line with the transformation of the national health system. "This will ensure our safety in carrying out health transformations in the future," said the Deputy Minister of Health.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Health explained that the chemical-based drugs used today were also originally developed from natural ingredients. The specialist in internal medicine explained the early development of diabetes drugs derived from plants.
"Several drugs that are currently chemical drugs were actually based on Phytopharmaca. Take my field for example, the diabetes drug Metformin, everyone certainly knows Metformin. Metformin was previously a medicine derived from leaves produced as a Phytopharmaca in France. We have used Metformin for fifty years and it turns out that Metformin can be used as a drug whose chemical elements are specifically extracted," explained dr Dante.
The award for PT Dexa Medica was presented by the General Chairperson of IndoHCF, dr. Supriyantoro, Sp.P, MARS. Mr. Supriyantoro stated that OMAI is a form of innovation for the independence of the pharmaceutical industry.
"Hopefully it can contribute to the nation and state in overcoming diseases in Indonesia," said Mr. Supriyantoro.
This award was received by PT Dexa Medica, represented by the Director of Business and Scientific Development of Dexa Group, Dr. Raymond Tjandrawinata. He expressed his appreciation for this award.
"We express our gratitude for this award, where our participation is to make Phytopharmaca intended for patients and doctors in Indonesia. Hopefully, the presence of this Phytopharmaca brings us health, because the independence of our raw materials can be achieved through the production of domestic medicines, including Phytopharmaca," said Dr. Raymond.
Phytopharmaca is a medicine developed from natural wealth and has undergone clinical trials so that it has efficacy equivalent to chemical-based drugs. Phytopharmaca developed from Indonesia's biodiversity and processed with state-of-the-art technology is now known as Original Modern Indonesian Medicine or OMAI.
"Hopefully this Phytopharmaca can be used in daily life, in BPJS health care, or included in the e-Catalog. So that doctors and patients get the benefits," said Dr. Raymond.
OMAI Phytopharmaca Has Gone Global
OMAI Phytopharmaca developed by PT Dexa Medica has been marketed to various countries in Asia and Africa. One of the OMAI Phytopharmaca products that successfully penetrated foreign markets is STIMUNO, which is a single-ingredient immunomodulator made from meniran (Phyllanthus niruri).
During the Covid-19 pandemic, STIMUNO has been increasingly trusted by doctors and patients in Nigeria, Cambodia, Myanmar, and the Philippines to maintain family immunity. In fact, in the Philippines and Cambodia, thousands of doctors have prescribed the use of STIMUNO to maintain patients' immunity. With the increasingly diverse export destination markets, STIMUNO products also play a role in increasing foreign exchange, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic due to the high demand for immunomodulators.
