JAKARTA – Dexa Group is strengthening Indonesia’s national pharmaceutical ecosystem by empowering 413 farmers across 34 districts in 11 provinces to supply raw materials for medicines derived from Indonesia’s biodiversity. The Green Pharmacy initiative, one of the implementations of Dexa Group’s Right to Win strategy, has once again earned the company recognition through the detikcom Green Economy Award, in the Community Economy Appreciation category.
The award recognizes Dexa Group’s efforts to integrate environmental and social aspects into the development of Integrative Modern Natural Medicines (Obat Modern Alami Integratif/OMAI), while strengthening the domestic supply chain for pharmaceutical raw materials. The award was received by Dexa Group Head of Corporate Communications, Sonny Himawan, from detikcom Editor-in-Chief Ardhi Suryadi, witnessed by CT Corp Chairman Chairul Tanjung, at Menara Bank Mega, Jakarta, on Thursday (September 3, 2026).
“Green Pharmacy is part of our efforts to ensure that Indonesia’s natural resources can create added value for agricultural commodities, strengthen the domestic supply chain, and support the independence and resilience of the national pharmaceutical industry,” said Sonny after receiving the award on behalf of Dexa Group.
OMAI are medicines derived from Indonesia’s natural resources and developed using modern technology. They include Standardized Herbal Medicines (Obat Herbal Terstandar/OHT) that have passed preclinical testing, as well as phytopharmaceuticals that have successfully passed clinical trials. Currently, 29 of the 96 registered OHT products and 24 of the 29 registered phytopharmaceuticals are produced by Dexa Group.
Dexa Group develops OMAI from a diverse range of Indonesia’s biodiversity, including meniran leaves, bungur leaves, legundi, torbangun leaves, saga leaves, mahkota dewa fruit, and cinnamon bark. In addition to plants, the development of OMAI also utilizes other biological resources, such as earthworms and snakehead fish.
Farmers receive empowerment programs and training to produce raw materials that meet industrial requirements and pharmaceutical industry standards. Through this approach, farmers are not merely commodity suppliers, but become an integral part of the ecosystem for developing pharmaceutical raw materials derived from Indonesia’s biodiversity.
These natural resources are subsequently developed through research and modern technology using the Tandem Chemistry Expression Bioassay System (TCEBS). Through a series of research activities and clinical trials, these natural ingredients are developed into OMAI with clinically proven efficacy while meeting pharmaceutical industry standards.
Several OMAI products developed through this approach include Inlacin and Diabetadex, developed from bungur leaves and cinnamon bark for metabolic health; Redacid, developed from cinnamon bark for digestive health; and Stimuno, developed from meniran for immune health. These products have obtained phytopharmaceutical certification and have been prescribed by physicians, including in countries such as the Philippines, Cambodia, and Nigeria.
The development of OMAI using locally sourced raw materials is part of Dexa Group’s efforts to harness Indonesia’s biodiversity while complementing the availability of conventional chemical-based medicines. The use of local resources is also aimed at creating greater value for agricultural commodities, strengthening the domestic supply chain, and contributing to efforts to minimize the carbon footprint.
Through the Green Pharmacy approach, Dexa Group is building an ecosystem that connects Indonesia’s biodiversity, local farmers, pharmaceutical research and innovation, and the healthcare needs of the community. This ecosystem forms part of the company’s efforts to support national pharmaceutical independence and resilience by strengthening domestic sources of raw materials and advancing medicine innovation rooted in Indonesia’s own natural resources.
