JAKARTA — The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technology is driving significant shifts across the healthcare ecosystem—from drug discovery and clinical practice to doctor-patient dynamics. These transformations formed the core discussion at the 2026 Dexa Periodic Scientific Meeting (PERIXA), which carried the theme “Navigating the Bio-Digital Era to Heal Diverse Populations” in Jakarta on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
Natalia Maria, Marketing Director of PT Dexa Medica, highlighted that advancements in AI and Precision Medicine unlock opportunities to deliver healthcare that is increasingly personalized and evidence-based. While AI enables large-scale clinical data analysis, Precision Medicine shifts the paradigm away from a one-size-fits-all model toward therapies tailored to individual patient characteristics and needs.

To that end, the event featured Prof. dr. Agus Rizal Ardy Hariandy Hamid, SpU(K), FICRS, PhD, and Mr. Sai Prasad, CTO of Google Cloud Indonesia, in a talk show moderated by Dexa Group Molecular Pharmacologist Prof. Raymond Tjandrawinata and Health Informatics Researcher & Lecturer Anis Fuad, DEA.
Prof. Agus addressed the integration of AI and robotics in clinical care—specifically how technology enhances procedural precision, broadens access to medical expertise via telemedicine and telementoring, and provides real-time guidance during surgical procedures. He emphasized that AI and robotics should act as clinical enablers rather than doctor replacements. Infrastructure readiness, data, human resources, regulation, education, and research remain crucial factors for responsible technology adoption.
Meanwhile, Sai Prasad discussed the evolution of multimodal AI and agentic AI in healthcare support. These technologies have the potential to help healthcare providers integrate diverse data sources, retrieve critical information faster, lighten administrative burdens, and aid clinical decision-making. However, clinical sovereignty remains paramount, with final medical decisions resting firmly with healthcare professionals.
From a pharmaceutical industry perspective, Prof. Raymond highlighted the use of AI and in silico approaches to accelerate drug development, including Fixed Dose Combinations (FDC). Technology also links R&D processes directly to smart manufacturing, strengthening traceability and enabling data-driven drug distribution.
The evolving doctor-patient relationship was examined by dr. Jaka Pradipta, Sp.P(K) Onk, in a session moderated by dr. Reisa Broto Asmoro. With AI influencing how patients research information prior to consultations, doctor-patient interactions are shifting toward shared decision-making. While AI serves as a useful information aid, validation and clinical decisions still depend on professional medical expertise.
Echoing this sentiment, dr. Elvine Gunawan, Sp.KJ, stressed the importance of preserving cognitive space, empathy, and human connection in healthcare. As AI grows more sophisticated, it becomes increasingly vital for health practitioners to understand technology limitations, protect data privacy, respect patients’ social and cultural contexts, and ensure patients are treated as human beings rather than mere data points.
